Christine Slater, 67, Maryport
Shift Controller/Fundraiser/Secretary

“I first learned about Blood Bikes Cumbria in 2017 from a rider, who happened to be standing next to me at a music festival. A few months later I heard the former Chairperson speak at a meeting and quizzed her about the role of Shift Controller, but did not sign up at the time. However, when I decided to attempt the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in 2019, I decided to do it as a fundraiser for Cumbria Blood Bikes. My sponsors were very generous, so I approached Blood Bikes Cumbria to get a T-shirt to wear on the day. That’s how I met the Treasurer, Ian Beattie, who suggested that I join as a Fund Raiser. I finally became a Controller earlier this year. I am proud to be part of this organisation, and at the 2021 AGM was elected to the Executive Committee to serve as Secretary”
