Louise Hetherington, 51, Sandwith
Shift Controller / Operations Manager

“After a talk about Blood Bikes Cumbria at our Womens Institute meeting in 2018, I made an enquiry to see if I could help. Not having any advanced riding/driving qualifications I couldn’t join as a rider/driver, but Shift Controller sounded just up my street. My ‘day job’ was based around logistics, decision making and priorities, so I thought this might be worth a try. I did my familiarisation training and got the links to the rota and got stuck in.

I became secretary to the organisation last summer and have recently moved into Operations Manager role, (handover is still ongoing). We pulled together with enhanced hours during Covid with not one shift missed, we have volunteered in Vaccination Centres to aid the programme, being part of this organisation makes me have faith in human kindness, the biggest gift we can give is our time as it is such a precious commodity, and for that I am grateful to be a member of this team.”
